For the extension of the Bordier hut, weight management is a priority as every construction material must be transported by helicopter. Following measures reduce the amount of material needed to be transported:
- The floor structure is delivered without ballast. Fill material available on site is crushed and reused as ballast to meet acoustic requirements. Electrical routing is also integrated into this layer.
- The walls and floors of the existing extension are reused to insulate the basement from the surrounding concrete walls and foundation slab.
- Concrete for the foundation slab and basement is produced using aggregates available on site, obtained by crushing the slab of the existing extension as well as existing fill material.
